Mandrill photo (after)

This photograph of a mandrill was taken at the South Lakes Wild Animal Park on a 3Mpx digital camera by Michael Baker.

It was an engaging portrait but lacked contrast and colour saturation. The wires from the animal enclosure were also very distracting. A prime candidate for some image engineering!

As this was a digital photo there was no scanning involved and we could get to work directly on the image file.

The wires were carefully removed first, then the levels and contrast across the entire photograph were adjusted. Colour saturation was boosted and the image selectively sharpened.
